The Church of The Holy Trinity is located at Kissy Road, Freetown, Sierra Leone.  It was built in 1877.  In 1894, it was said to have the largest and "most fashionable" congregation in Freetown, and its parson occupied a "position of commanding influence" in the colony".  By 1910, it was already being described as one of the most important churches in Freetown.  It was burnt down in 1999 during the Sierra Leone Civil War by forces of the Revolutionary United Front as they withdrew from the capital.

Hymn written for opening and dedication of
Holy Trinity Church and for other occasions

Written by:           Donald C Kaye, FCA, FCCA
                         Assistant Organist
Tune : Aurelia

(In case you do not know the tune "Aurelia" it is usually sung with the hymn "The Church is one Foundation")

1          Our Trinity once razed down,
Is now fully restored.
All praise our Lord and Master,
for faith and hope and strength.
To those who toiled, sing GRATIAS
for tis a noble deed;
To those who sinned, we echo,
that all is sure forgiven.

2.                    For many a generation,
have been and gone before.
Through this your place of Worship,
a blessed place to be.
Yet! what looked bleak and hopeless,
is now fully restored.
To those who toiled relentless,
be blessed for evermore.

3.          We pray for your forgiveness
for all who may have sinned.
For 'Twas the devil's fury!
that once destroyed our joy.
Yet Lord! yours is the power,
that rises over all.
We celebrate your victory,
our Holy Trinity

4          One Church, one hope, one glory,
is yours the Almighty King.
Assured of hope and blessing,
In prayer we come to thee
Our sacred place of worship
So radiantly restored.
We praise and magnify thee,
Our King, our blessed one.

5.          With holy exaltation
We here submit to thee
Our lives, our minds, our spirit
Our future to thy care
Let UNITY and concord
Our watchword ever be.
With words of adoration,
we march henceforth to thee.

6.          We celebrate your victory,
and say a loud AMEN.
For we were heavy laden,
when sons of earth rebelled;
but with our faith and passion,
we all come here again.
To Praise and magnify him,
with joy we shout Amen!

Hymn for the dedication of the new Organ
(Sunday 5TH OCTOBER 2008)

Written by:           Donald C Kaye, FCA, FCCA
Assistant Organist.

The tune for the Sankey Hymn 'God is here and come to bless us'

1.          In our path to restoration,
Church of Holy Trinity.
First the structure, then the pulpit,
now the Organ, nay relent!

As we march with utmost passion,
Lord, invoke strong unity;
love, devotion, strength, conviction,
Till your work is fully done.

2.          And with thy perpetual mercy,
strong and brave to face the foe;
when we worship you with music,
as your scriptures thus proclaim.

We will work as one in Spirit;
to restore our Trinity,
which was razed without a reason,
may they see your mighty deeds.

3.                    As we pledge utmost devotion,
to Trinity, three in one.
God the Father, Son and Spirit,
All in One and One in All.

We shall shout with joy and gladness,
as we blend with Strings and Pipes -
gamba, octave, flute and zimbel,
in a joyful harmony.

4.                    Let Swell Organ now speak volumes,
with the pedals, high and low.
Add Great Organ, other couplers,
pleasant sound unto the Lord.

And with joyful voices, Praise Him!
great and faithfully He reigns.
Sacred Church now stands triumphant,
to the Spirit evermore.

5.          Lord, uphold those of our number,
through whose means we've come thus far.
As we toil through life's hard journey,
to rebuild your Edifice.

May the Lord Almighty, Bless you!
Throughout all those years ahead.
May He always guard and guide you,
                             Amen, Amen, AMEN!!

JOHN'S SONG
TUNE:          -JINGLE BELLS

          "Change your ways! Change your ways!"
          cried the prophet John,
          "God's own King is coming soon.
          so who's side are you on?  .oh.
          "Change your ways! Change your ways!"
          cried the prophet John,
          "God's own King is coming soon.
          so who's side are you on?

1.          Out in the wilderness,
          there lived a man named John;
          you really would have laughed
          to see what he had on.
          Coat of camel hair and leather belt had he;
          Crunchy locusts for his lunch and honey for his tea.
          "Change your ways!"

2.          The crowds flocked out to hear,
          what this man had to say
          "God's King is coming soon,
          repent without delay!
          The hills will be brought down,
                     the valleys will be raised,
          every crooked road made straight
          it's time to change your ways!"
          "Change your ways!"

GOD STANDING OUR SIDE
Matthew 3:11-17 - Jesus' Baptism          Tune: How great Thou art

1.          John challenged all to face their sin and failure,
          to own their faults; seek rescue in God's name
          but Jesus came, and chose to stand beside us:
          to be baptised, though free of taint or blame.
          Then God's delight burst through the heav'ns above,
          the Spirit's pow'r, poured out that hour;
          for Jesus showed the essence of God's love
          He lived and died - God by our side!

2.          When we're alone, engulfed by countless troubles
          and all our hopes by fear and stress outweighed:
          still Jesus comes and quietly stands beside us
          to hear and help, tho' we're the ones who strayed.
          Then God's delight bursts through the heav'ns above,
          the Spirit's pow'r, pours out that hour;
          still Jesus shows the essence of God's love
          He lived and died - God by our side!

3.          When time's complete, prevarication over,
          and all are judged before our Maker's throne,
          Christ will be there, our advocate beside us.
          claim for us life, by offering up his own
          then God's delight will burst the heav'ns above,
          the Spirit's pow'r, will fill that hour;
          for all will know the essence of God's love
          Christ lived and died - God by our side!

Dear Sir/Madam,

Fund Raising Project - Holy Trinity Church Freetown

An account has been opened at a Barclays Bank branch in London into which all donations are to be paid.

It is wonderful that our Church indeed has been reconstructed, rededicated, and brought into full use.  You should see it; it is really the talk of the town.  But there are still plenty of work to be done to embellish God's house.

The organ for example is still to be acquired and the cost for that is forty-two thousand pounds (£42,000).  We have paid ten percent of that and we are trying to find the balance.  That's where you all come in.

We are appealing to all the folks especially in the Diaspora to make a little contribution from time to time and I am sure we can quickly reach that goal.

There was a time when some people doubted we could rebuild the church, but God has once more worked wonders and will continue to do so in Jesus' name.

Dear Friends:

CHURCH OF THE HOLY TRINITY - PIPE ORGAN APPEAL

I write to seek your assistance in soliciting funds from well meaning people especially Trinitonians abroad (UK/US) to help us get the balance of monies due to Jardine, the people we are getting our organ through.

Someone located the organ in Wimbledon at a church which was being pulled down.  The cost is £42,000 (forty-two thousand pounds).  That is actually the cost of dismantling, packing, spares, shipping and setup in Freetown.  It was a give away if you like.  We were told that a new organ of that type would have cost some three hundred thousand pounds.

We have raised some £25,000 (twenty-five thousand pounds) and so we are looking to raise a further £17,000 (seventeen thousand pounds) to complete the transaction.

If you think you can assist in any way whatsoever please let me know.

People's Warden

The Church of The Holy Trinity is located at Kissy Road, Freetown, Sierra Leone.  It was built in 1877.  In 1894, it was said to have the largest and "most fashionable" congregation in Freetown, and its parson occupied a "position of commanding influence" in the colony".  By 1910, it was already being described as one of the most important churches in Freetown.  It was burnt down in 1999 during the Sierra Leone Civil War by forces of the Revolutionary United Front as they withdrew from the capital.
